Types of Water Pumps

1. Submersible Pumps

Submersible pumps are one of the most popular types of well pumps. They are long metal cylinders that are entirely submerged in a well & they use a motor to pump the water up into an above-ground reservoir for storage. They work at various depths, so even if you live in a dry area with a well that is hundreds of feet deep, you can still access water. Submersible pumps can last up to 25 years, much longer than other types of pumps because they are submerged & this keeps the motors cool.

2. Hand Pumps

Hand pumps use a hand-cranked level to extract water from a well & carry it to a holding tank before it is piped into your home. These pumps are the least expensive water pump available because they require physical labor to operate. One distinct advantage to a hand pump is that they allow you to access your water supply even when you don’t have electricity. You can use them simultaneously with other styles of water pumps.
